The Second Annual Campbell River Salmon Foundation Dinner was a great success, raising $92,000, Foundation chair Mike Gage said this week.
"It compares to last year, so we're thrilled," he said. "In this economy, I was amazed that we got that far.
"We want to give a special thanks to every one of our contributors. I know it's a different economy and they were very generous in spite of the economy."
Once again the event was a sellout with more than 400 people attending March 21 at the Community Centre, all the more impressive given that the ticket price had increased from $50 to $75, which included a CRSF membership.
"So we ended up with new members," he said. "The dinner went well. It was a lot of hard work but we're all getting better at it.
"Marine Harvest gave us their second $10,000 contribution in a row. Positive Aquaculture Awareness gave us a cheque for $1,500 and BC Hydro gave us their second cheque for $5,000. They gave us $5,000 last year too."
Gage said much of the money raised will go into projects involving funding from BC Hydro's Bridge Coastal Restoration Program (BCRP).
"Everything we raise can go back into partnerships," he said. "We try to partner on every single project that we do, so that somebody else is paying 50 per cent. That way we can do even more with our money."
Gage offered a special thanks to the foundation dinner's volunteer crew, including the Greenways Land Trust, local stream keepers and the Campbell River Fire Department bar crew.
